JEWELRY CARE
BALTERA fine jewelry is made with the highest level of craftsmanship and can become a cherished family heirloom when cared for properly. Dust, pollutants and daily wear can dull gemstones & precious metals. To increase it’s longevity we reccommend wiping down your jewelry with a cotton cloth after wear. With time and wear stones or an entire piece of jewelry can be lost if not maintained over the years. Give your pieces a periodic inspection as you wear it. Look for loose or chipped stones, worn links, bent prongs, broken clasps, cracked or chipped enamel. For best results, have a professional jeweler clean & service your pieces once a year.

GENERAL CARE
If you don’t want it on your skin you shouldn’t put it on your jewelry. Avoid chemicals like household cleaners and jewelry cleaner. To get your gems to shine just use a damp cloth. When traveling a soft padded case is ideal for your jewelry. Keep pieces seperate from one another. Always remove your rings prior to getting a manicure, and your earrings and necklaces before a haircut or color. We recommend removing your jewelry before hitting the gym, gardening or any other type of manual labor that may cause abrasions or damage. It is advisable to keep your pieces out of water, this includes the shower and hand-washing. If you remember, remove your jewels before going to sleep.

STORAGE
When not in use, store jewelry in the protective bag and box received with purchase. Because metals and stones become scratched when coming into contact with one another, we recommend that you store each piece of jewelry separately.

STONES
Pieces with stones should be protected from impact or bending, as stones may pop out of their settings if shifted in any way. They should be not be exposed to chlorine, household cleaning chemicals, extreme heat or light and salt water. Do not clean them with an ultrasonic machine, as this may cause the stones to become brittle or crack.

GOLD & PLATINUM
Between professional servicing, your gold and platinum jewelry can be cleaned by diluting dish detergent in a small bowl of warm water. Soak each piece for a 3-5 mins. Gently clean your item by using a clean cotton cloth. Make sure to remove all of the diluted dish soap by rinsing your jewelry under warm running water. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Be sure to dry your jewelry completely before wearing again. Avoid exposing gold jewelry to household bleach, as it can quickly cause gold to discolor and possibly disintegrate.

STERLING SILVER
We love sterling silver, it is a beautiful, lustrous metal. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come. Sterling silver tarnishes, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulfur. However, silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we encourage you to wear your silver every day.

Washing Silver
We recommend using a clean, cotton cloth and mild dish detergent diluted in water. It is best to rub the piece in one direction & avoid circular motions.

Polishing Silver
Use a quality brand of silver polish. Some “dip” polishes contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided. Begin by using a soft cloth or sponge to apply the polish. Rub the piece gently. You may use a small brush or toothbrush with natural bristles. Wash in sudsy water, make sure to remove all the polish. Rinse well in warm water, dry thoroughly and buff gently with a soft cloth. You may love the “oxidized” finish that comes with time and wear. The blackening of crevices in the details of silver pieces can make its decorative details stand out more clearly and give it an “antiqued feel.” If you would like to maintain this oxidation do not use silver polish or dip style cleaning solutions, take care & wash very gently with soap and water as this finish can be removed by overzealous cleaning and polishing.

OUR BLACK PATINA
Take care as this finish can be removed by overzealous cleaning and polishing. It requires special care and should not be cleaned in a silver dip, as these dips can be extremely harsh. Only use soap and warm water with a soft toothbrush on these pieces. Patinas are a semi-permanent finish, they will continue to evolve with time. We only apply black patina to our earrings. Rings and bracelets are exposed to too much wear for such a delicate finish. Avoid direct contact with body cream, fragrance, and avoid wearing your jewelry in the shower. BALTERA can freshen up your patina for a small fee.

ENAMEL
While our enamel pieces are designed & made with the utmost of quality and care, they are essentially glass and must be treated as such. Please wear your enameled jewelry with care. Just as a dropped glass can shatter... enameling can shatter or crack if banged against another object or dropped. As with all jewelry, remove it before getting wet. Please keep enamel away from detergents, chlorine, perfume, soap, ultrasonic and liquid jewelry cleaners. Salt water, or humidity can degrade the enamel faster. Treat it like the precious item it is and it will last a lifetime! To clean use a soft toothbrush, gently brush your jewelry with warm water and a mild liquid soap. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.

BALTERA is not responsible for the maintenance of your jewelry.
