About Baltera

Baltera is a small scale jewelry design and manufacturing studio – small by design. We believe that controlling every process of design and production leads to exceptionally well-crafted products. We also believe this creates products that are aesthetically genuine. By being involved in every step, we assure that the original intent of every piece is carried from conception to completion. We believe that creating all our items, one at a time, using the best techniques available, be it hand firing glass for the brilliant colors that only true enamel can produce, to mastering the benefits of computer aided sculpture and machining, that we can create captivating designs crafted to last generations. We believe that if you’re going to design something to be admired for years and years – it ought to last for years and years.

Our Studio

We wake up in the morning… ok, Rudy wakes up in the morning. He makes coffee while I stay in bed with the dog for as long as possible (sometimes this is very long indeed) (sometimes it’s only moderately long). Eventually I arise and, coffees in hands, we start the trek across our neighborhood, over the bridge and a handful of blocks to our studio. I forget things. I make Rudy go back for them. 7 floors up and we get started. I fire up my computer and Rudy fires up the kiln. I work on colors, Rudy works on forms. Sometimes I work on forms. Sometimes Rudy works on… ok, I don’t let Rudy work on colors, and he won’t let me touch the espresso machine. But, we both work on making the best art we can, we do it here, where we live, where we eat, and where we play. We enjoy the challenges and the struggle to perfect our skills and we hope you enjoy the works that come from that.
